Bland food was one of my biggest issues when I was 65 lbs. overweight on a fat free diet. The resulting food cravings were agonizing and legit ran (and ruined!) my daily focus. I was unsatisfied after a meal. My workouts left me STARVING on a consistent basis regardless of what I ate. I knew living in agony over food was not an option and something had to shift. To top it off, I had tons of hormone issues and digestive problems as well.

This was over 11 years ago prior to becoming certified in all things holistic nutrition and functional medicine – getting to the root cause to achieve true weight loss, fat loss, energy, focus and more. I was finally able to balance my Macros in the correct way for my body and metabolism. Food tasted great + I was no longer starving all day long. It was a serious time for celebration. Lol
And, speaking of taste. “It’s like something I’d get in an ice cream shop!” Was the comment I received from mine after giving him this weight loss smoothie. I know what you’re thinking. “He’s your husband, OF COURSE he’s going to tell you it’s good!” Think again! I am lucky that he’s my biggest fan, he’s also my biggest critic when it comes to the kitchen! Getting a weight loss smoothie “correct” so it’s satisfying + tastes great is tricky.

Weight Loss Breakfast Smoothie
- 1 cup Homemade Almond Milk (CLICK HERE for recipe!)
- …Or you can use any Unsweetened Nut Milk 🙂
- 1 scoop PurePaleo Chocolate or Vanilla Beef Protein Powder
- …Or any “one ingredient” protein of choice. Naked Egg Protein is a great option for this smoothie as well 🙂
- 2 tbsp. Organic Almond Butter
- up to 1 tbsp. Coconut Oil
- 2 tsp. Organic Chia Seeds
- 2 tbsp. Organic Raw Pumpkin Seeds
- 1/4 Med. “green tipped” Organic Banana (previously frozen if possible)
- 1 c. Fresh-frozen Organic Greens (spinach, collards or kale)
- 2 cups ice
- Extra protein option: 1 scoop Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
- Gut health option: 1 scoop L Glutamine Powder + 1 Scoop DGL Powder
1. Add milk + protein to blender.
2. Add almond butter, coconut oil, chia seeds + pumpkin seeds. Blend until smooth.
3. Add banana, greens + ice..
4. Add greens + ice.
5. Blend to desired consistency! More ice can be added for a thicker “shake.”
Caution: Weight Loss Breakfast Smoothies are slightly addicting… in a good way, of course!
->Let’s face it. Protein “powders” are still powders. I believe that using these in moderation is fine as long as you’re blending it with REAL FOOD. Along with not only relying on the powder for your healthy nutrients.
->I love my smoothies really cold. I keep various fruits and vegetables cleaned + frozen for convenience! They’re ready and available throughout the week as needed.
->Lastly, I choose to make my own nut milk as well as nut butter. This of course can be made with the “store bought” versions as well.
